HIT AND RUN/DUI ARREST  HANOVER

On March 7, 2010, at approximately 2:28 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the area of MD Route 100 East and Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover for a report of a female subject on the side of the road attempting to flag down vehicles. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 26-year-old female victim, who advised that she was the victim of a hit and run crash. She stated that she was driving eastbound on MD 100 when an unknown red vehicle entered MD 100 eastbound from Arundel Mills Boulevard, lost control and stuck her 2004 Ford Escort. The impact forced her vehicle into the guardrail the operator of the unknown red vehicle fled the scene. Fire Department responded and provided assistance to the female victim and it was determined that she was not injured. At approximately 2:38 a.m., officers observed a 2003 red Mitsubishi with front end damage travelling north in the southbound lane of MD Route 3 at McKnew Road. Officers stopped the vehicle and further investigation revealed that it was the vehicle responsible for the earlier crash. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.

ATTEMPTED MURDER/ HOME INVASION ODENTON

On February 2, 2010, at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 500 block of Williamsburg Lane in Odenton for a report of a home invasion/shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old male victim inside of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Additionally, they located a 21-year-old female victim inside of the residence suffering from injuries apparently sustained by blunt force trauma. Both victims were treated by responding Fire Departmental personnel and transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. The 24-year-old male victim is currently in critical condition and the 21-year-old female victim has since been treated and released. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Through investigation, they determined that two male suspects entered the residence and then overpowered a 74-year-old male victim. A short time later, the suspects encountered the aforementioned male and female victim and a struggled ensued. During the struggle, the male victim was shot multiple times and the female victim sustained injuries from blunt force trauma although it is unknown what caused those injuries. The suspects fled the residence and entered a vehicle described as a silver Dodge pickup truck. Numerous officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspects. At this time, the motive is unknown, but detectives are looking into the possibility that the victims may have been targeted. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to contact the Major Crimes Section Homicide Unit at 410-222-3566 or Metro Crime Stoppers. Suspect #1: White male, approximately 5’8” with a medium build, wearing a dark, grey knit cap covering the face, a black jacket and sweat pants. Suspect #2: White male, approximately 5’8” with a medium build and hazel eyes, wearing a grey hoodie, a bandana covering the lower half of the face, a black jacket and pants.

WESTERN DISTRICT DWI ARREST

On January 29, 2010, at approximately 2:50 p.m., an Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Deputy received a report from a citizen of a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Quarterfield Road and George Clauss Boulevard in Severn. As a result, the deputy requested assistance from the Anne Arundel County Police in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Several officers got behind the suspect vehicle, a red Kia, and
attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield to the officers, accelerated and
attempted to flee. The driver of the vehicle led officers on a chase encompassing northbound and
southbound I-97, Route 32, Route 175 and eventually into the Seven Oaks community in
Odenton, where the suspect was ultimately apprehended after the vehicle turned down a dead end
street. During the pursuit, the suspect struck a marked Anne Arundel County Police vehicle that
was stopped at the emergency turnaround on I-97 South beyond the Crownsville Road exit. The
officer was not injured, but the vehicle sustained minor damage. The suspect then threw his
vehicle into reverse and struck an Anne Arundel County Police officer and subsequently struck
another marked county police vehicle while the officer was entering that vehicle. Both officers
sustained minor injuries. During the end of the pursuit, the suspect struck a marked Maryland
State Police vehicle prior to being apprehended. Suspect: Robert Douglas Dockery, 59, of the 200 block of Oak Lane, SW, Glen Burnie, MD. The suspect was arrested and charged with DWI, Fleeing and Eluding, Assault and numerous traffic violations.

ROBBERY CROFTON

On January 31, 2010, at approximately 3:57 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 7-Eleven store located in the 2000 block of Davidsonville Road in Crofton. Upon arrival, officers met with the store clerk, who advised that a male suspect entered the store, implied that he had a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk complied with the demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency to the suspect, who also took several packs of Newport cigarettes prior to fleeing the store on foot. Numerous officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. Suspect: White male, approximately 6’0” with a heavy build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black gloves and dark-colored footwear shoes

BANK ROBBERY ARREST

Between October 29, 2009, and December 28, 2009, four bank robberies believed to be committed by the same suspect occurred in Anne Arundel County. In each of the incidents, a male subject entered the bank, announced a robbery and obtained undisclosed amounts of money. Additionally, in all of the robberies, the suspect never displayed a weapon and was able to flee; however, his image was captured on bank surveillance. The dates, times and locations of the robberies are as follows:
• October 29, 2009, at 1:38 p.m. at the Northrop Grumman Federal Credit Union located at
898 #101 Airport Park Drive in Glen Burnie.
• November 6, 2009, at 5:07 p.m. at the PNC Bank located at 1298 Cronson Boulevard in
Crofton.
• November 20, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Line Bank located at 1641 Route 3 in Crofton.
• December 28, 2009, at 2:40 p.m. at the Wachovia Bank located at 1623 Crofton Center in
Crofton.
UPDATE:
During the follow-up investigation, a task force comprised of the Maryland State Police,
Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Falls Church (Va.) Police Department, US Marshals Service and
the Anne Arundel County Police Department were able to develop a suspect through bank photos.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Earl Macvernon Pegram, 56,
of 4441 Natahala Drive, Clinton, Maryland based on a recent bank robbery in their jurisdiction
and the information developed by the task force.

Officer-Involved Shooting (UPDATE) Odenton

On January 12th at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Tea Island Court, in Odenton, for a call of two male subjects going through vehicles. When the first officer arrived he walked into the court and observed a Kia Sportage (small SUV) in the roadway. The vehicle immediately drove at the officer and he believed the vehicle was attempting to strike him. The officer drew his service weapon and fired at the vehicle, which struck the officer, knocking him to the ground. The vehicle drove into a dead end, stopped, and two male suspects fled on foot. The officer who was struck was unable to pursue them. Within minutes, other arriving officers searched the area and located one suspect, who was taken into custody. That suspect was not struck by the rounds fired by the officer. Police canine and aviation units were called to the area to search for the second suspect, who has not yet been located. The on-scene investigation is continuing at this time. It is unknown if the rounds fired by the officer struck the second suspect. Upon inspection of the suspect vehicle, officers observed a handgun in the area of the front seat. The officer who was struck by the vehicle was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and has been released. He is 33 years old, and a nine and a half year veteran of the department. He will be on mandatory administrative leave.
(UPDATE) The suspect arrested on-scene was identified as Delartron Mavcon Munford, age 24, of
305 Mountain Ridge Court in Glen Burnie. He was charged with two counts of Second Degree Assault and Resisting Arrest. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the second suspect who was identified as Juan Shedrick Nicholas II, age 27, of 4 Estero Place in Middle River. He was charged with Second Degree Attempted Murder, First Degree Assault and Felony Assault on a Police Officer. A search warrant was executed on the suspect vehicle on January 12th and several stolen items were recovered. Multiple items are believed to have been taken during thefts from vehicles in the Glen Burnie and Crofton areas. Additionally, a 9mm handgun was recovered, which was also reported as stolen. At least three vehicles were found to have been entered by the suspects on Tea Island Court. The investigation of the thefts and recovered property is ongoing and additional charges related to the thefts are pending for the suspects. On Tuesday, January 12th detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Special Enforcement Team searched for Juan Nicholas, and he was located at a residence in Baltimore County. Detectives were aided by Baltimore County and Baltimore City Police. Nicholas was arrested on the warrant for this case by 9:00 p.m. and was found to be uninjured from the earlier assault on the police officer.

Stabbing Crofton

On January 13th at approximately 4:30 a.m. officers responded to 910 Eastham Court in Crofton for a 911 call of an armed subject with a knife. The 35 year-old male victim called police after he and a roommate had an argument. During the course of the argument the roommate stabbed the victim in the arm. Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and treated the victim for injuries to his arm and face. The victim refused to be transported to a hospital. The suspect was arrested and charged with First and Second Degree Assault. Suspect: Raul Omar Fuente, age 35, of 910 Eastham Court in Crofton.

ARMED ROBBERY ARREST CROFTON

On August 13, 2009, at 9:35 p.m., a male subject entered the Paceway store located in the 1300 block of Defense Highway in Crofton. The suspect approached the service counter, produced a handgun and demanded money. The on duty clerk complied with the demands and handed over an undetermined amount of money from the register. The subject then fled the store on foot towards Route 450. And on October 21, 2009, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a male subject entered the Paceway store located in the 1300 block of Defense Highway in Crofton. The suspect approached the service counter, produced a handgun and demanded money. The on duty clerk complied with the demands and turned over money from the register. The suspect then fled the store on foot.

On December 5, 2009, Baltimore County Police arrested a suspect for a commercial armed robbery that was committed in their jurisdiction. Evidence recovered during the course of the arrest led to the suspect, Dennis Lee Daniels, 26, of 3803 Towanda Avenue in Baltimore, now being considered as a supect in the two aforementioned robbery cases in Anne Arundel County. After further investigation, Robbery Unit detectives then submitted an application for charges to he Court Commissioner. An arrest warrant was issued charging Daniels with having committed both of the armed robberies of the Paceway store. Daniels is currently being held on the Baltimore County charges and the Anne Arundel County charges will serve as a detainer.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY CROFTON

On December 30, at approximately 3:56 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 7-Eleven store located in the 2100 block of Defense Highway in Crofton for a hold-up alarm. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 56-year-old male clerk, who stated that a male subject tered the store, walked behind the register and displayed a handgun. The suspect then demanded that the clerk open the cash register. The clerk complied and the suspect collected numerous packs of cigarettes from behind the counter along with an undetermined amount of money from the cash register. The suspect fled on foot on Defense Highway towards Baldwin Drive. Several officers and a K-9 unit canvassed the area, yet could not locate the suspect. Anyone with information on this crime or suspect is asked to contact Detective Mike Regan of the Robbery Unit at 410-222-3489. Suspect: Black male, approximately 5’10”, 200 pounds, wearing a black hooded jacket, black jeans, black gloves and white shoes.

BANK ROBBERY ARRESTS CROFTON

On December 30, at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the BB&T Bank located in the 2100 block of Defense Highway in Crofton for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, officer spoke with employees, who advised that two male subjects entered the bank armed with handguns and demanded money. The employees complied with the demands and turned over the money. The suspects subsequently fled the bank on foot. Witnesses observed the suspects run across Defense Highway (MD Route 450), get inside a white Mercedes SUV and drive eastbound on Rt. 450 towards Crain Highway (MD Route 3). Officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department and Crofton Police Department saturated the area in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle. Western District Team Police Detectives located the suspect vehicle on southbound MD Route 3 and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle began to flee from the police and officers followed the suspect vehicle southbound into the Upper Marlboro area of Prince George’s County. The suspects eventually fled from their vehicle into an adjacent wooded area near the intersection of Crain Highway (Route 301) and Marlboro Pike. The suspects continued to flee on foot for several minutes, but were located and apprehended with assistance provided by the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Aviation Unit, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Maryland State Police. Additionally, one of the weapons was recovered along with money taken during the robbery. Both suspects were charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Felony, Theft Over $10,000 but Under $100,000 and First Degree Assault. The investigation is ongoing and the mug shots will not be released at this time. Suspect #1: Andrew J. Hooker-Orange, 21, of 13403 Cherry Tree Crossing, Brandywine, MD. Suspect #2: Samuel Sullivan, Jr., 35, of 5149 Ayres Place SE, Apt. #3, Washington D.C.

BANK ROBBERY CROFTON

On December 28, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the Wachovia Bank located in the 1600 block of Crofton Center in Crofton for a report of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with employees, who advised that a male subject entered the bank, approached one of the tellers and demanded money. The teller complied with the demands and turned over an undetermined amount of money to the suspect, who fled south on foot. Several officers, a K-9 unit and an Aviation unit responded to search the area and could not locate the suspect. Anyone with information on this crime or suspect is asked to contact Detective Cliffird Van Hoesen of the Robbery Unit at 410-222-3469. Suspect: Black male, 50-60 years old, approximately 6’0” with a thin build, wearing a black/blue/green jacket and a hat.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY CROFTON

On December 25, at approximately 4:56 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 7-Eleven store located in the 1000 block of Rt. 3 North in Crofton for a hold-up alarm. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 49-year-old female clerk, who stated that a male ect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded that the clerk open the cash register. The clerk complied with the demands and the suspect collected several packs and cartons of cigarettes from behind the counter along with an undetermined amount of money from the register. The suspect then fled northbound on Route 3 in a light-colored vehicle. Several officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. Suspect: Black male, approximately 5’8”-5’10” with an average build, wearing all dark lothing, white stripes down the jacket sleeves, a black ski mask and tan work boots (armed with a handgun).
